StickStar Method

The Method

StickStar Lacrosse Instructions method is developed from hours and hours of time spent at the field.  As a result of our fundamental belief in a consistent system, we created our own method of teaching pretty much every skill one can be taught.  We have fused teachings from other sports, and other coaches; but, for the most part our teaching method is our own.  It is unique and any of our consistent students would attest to this.  Students must be patient with us to get to the good stuff.  We start every student at the same spot whether you are an all-star or a beginner, it matters not.  You will never see us begin with shooting, as that is a skills that comes way down the line.  There are plenty of movements and competencies that must be mastered before you can move on to a skill so complex as shooting.  Building blocks must be mastered first.  We do not compromise our teaching method for a quick fix.  Players and parents should understand this before signing up for instruction with us.

Attention to Detail
StickStar's Instruction focuses on the details, thus having a reason for everything we do.  That is why on each repition you will hear us engage our players in dailogue.  We are always asking questions.  A player will not just get it.  You will also never hear us say "do that".  That, may be the least descriptive word ever.  You will also never hear us say, "do it like this".  Players need more than those two completely non descriptive words.  Players also have different learning styles, so we have to try and create as many ways to describe how to execute a skill as possible.  For visual learners we demonstrate.  For auditory learners we explain.  For players who need extra help we create analogies.  We find the way to get them to execute, and repeat.  We rarely sit there quietly.  We are constantly engaging the players, and they respond.  It is our job to point out what they are doing properly, what they need help on, and what they are proficient at.  We are consistent with our feedback, and never leave room for doubt.  This allows for our players to make leaps and bounds in their game as they are given a blueprint.  They are also given the associated questions and answers to understand their new found knowledge.

Testimonials

"Anthony's lessons are unique in that he not only gives verbal
instruction, but also shows his students the correct form which is
extremely helpful. He is a HANDS ON coach.  His passion for the game and for his students is evident 100% of the time.  Anthony has the ability to see each player's strengths and weaknesses and teaches them to use their strengths and make improvements where needed.  He serves as a very positive role model and his students respect and work hard to please him.  He gives individual attention to his students, not only in the lessons, but also beyond in their team play.  I have seen Jack improve tremendously in the amount of time that Anthony has worked with him."
