StickStar Experience

Coach Zoda’s StickStar Experience began in the summer of 2010. As a rising junior, Zoda was a standout member of the extremely talented 2012s that took Runner-Up at the Denver Shootout. In 2014, Coach Zoda returned back to Texas and the StickStar staff and has been a consistent Educator at our seminars and on our sidelines ever since.

This past summer, under Coach Zoda's instruction, our 2023 Texas United  & 2018 Dallas Select squads took home championships at NXT Wildcard & Texas Draw vs Chaos Lacrosse and 3D Texas, respectively.

Questions & Answers

1. What is your greatest thrill as a coach?

This is really hard to narrow down to one game or moment.

My first fall with StickStar, I was coaching a youth tournament with Coach Crimmins out in Plano. About 10 minutes into a game, things got heated with the referees and after an exchange of words Crimm got tossed from the game. I was shocked, talk about baptism by fire. It was my first time running the show. The boys were able to build a 3-goal comeback to steal a late win that ultimately locked us in as the 1 seed. As a young coach, that was pretty nerve-racking.

***Editor's Note. "The baptism by fire technique. The only game I've ever been ejected from, and this ref and I are great friends to this day #Gus." Anthony Crimmins

2. What is your greatest thrill as a player?

I have been lucky enough to be a part of many championship teams, I will never forget any of them. But, on April 11th, 2011 Coppell beat St. Marks, who were currently undefeated & ranked #1 in the state, 7-6 in OT. Without a doubt the most intense game I played in where a trophy wasn’t on the line.

3.What's your favorite piece of StickStar Apparel?

Like a parent loves their children, I love all 12 pairs of my khaki shorts equally. So my favorite apparel has to be the dark grey Texan sweatshirt. If I got a dollar for overtime I wore it, I would be a very rich dude.

4. Why do you enjoy coaching with StickStar?

SO many things can go here. The Khaki Culture. The unique learning environment. The commitment to success. The creativity of the coaching staff. The awesome players and parents that I have been able to meet & build relationships with. Each day with StickStar is a reminder as to why I am so passionate about the sport of lacrosse.

5. Favorite Coach?

It’s gotta be Bill Belichick.

The championship resume, the intensity, the strategy, the sleeveless sweatshirts; he really has it all.

6. Last played song on iTunes?
