For StickStar it is and will always be about development. Developing players for over 15 years in Texas and across the Region. Developing programs, developing coaches, and most certainly developing relationships. In 2018 StickStar launched its program North of the Red River, Oklahoma United, led by AJ Anderson, a StickStar Alum. In less than a year Coach Anderson has diligently worked to develop players from across the State in an effort to unite, improve, and highlight an up and coming lacrosse community.
One of the most exciting pieces of our Oklahoma United program is the relationship we have with the Potawatomi Tribe. Last summer StickStar, Oklahoma United, and the Potawatomi Tribe entered into a multi faceted partnership to help “Grow the Game” in Oklahoma and across the various tribes in the State. The Potawatomi Tribal Seal is adorned on our Oklahoma United kits, and our players proudly represent a heritage where lacrosse is more than just a sport, but a way of life.
Growing the Game is an awesome tag line, but to truly grow it, you must work hard, sacrifice, and create things that don’t exist. Together with the Potawatomi Tribe we will do just that. 1st, the goal is to get more tribal members playing the game. “The tribe is thrilled to partner with StickStar Lacrosse in re-igniting interest for boys and girls of all ages to player America’s original sport,” Citizen Potawatomi Nation’s Brad Peltier. “Participants are not required to be tribal members to participate. We want to get youth and parents out here to see and experience the excitement of lacrosse in person.”
To start we will work with players and tribal members in classic StickStar Seminar fashion. Getting sticks in players hands, and starting from the beginning. Next we will have a 7’s game where Youth and HS Players from Oklahoma and Texas will compete. Quality players from Texas will head north, of the Red River to compete, which doesn’t happen often. Some of the best players in the StickStar Program will be heading to Oklahoma to demonstrate a fun and exciting game. Oklahoma United players will also be competing and defending their home turf.
“From a culture stand point, this is what it is all about. What makes a great program? For StickStar we believe it is Culture. We have players, parents, and a program that gets it, and is thrilled to help generate interest and activity with our partners, the Potawatomi.”
The games will be Streamed Live, via StickStar Productions (youtube.com/StickStarLacrosse) to truly amplify the message of this event across the United States to increase interest for lacrosse among Potawatomi Tribal Members wherever they might be. If you’d like to compete at this event please contact Anthony Crimmins (firstname.lastname@example.org). The HS Game will have current seniors through current freshman, and the youth game will have current 8th through current 6th. You do not have to play for StickStar, you just have to want to support a great event, and help grow the game. We are all the same tribe, lacrosse fans. Please help us grow this game, and interest within the Native Community. Contact StickStar to help Support this event!
